On Sunday, September 14, the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw will host a landmark event inaugurating the centennial celebrations of Polish Radio. Titled “4/10/100 + 1 = ∞”, the concert marks the beginning of Polish Radio’s yearlong project dedicated to commissioning and premiering new works by leading Polish composers from different generations.
At this first concert in the series, the world premiere of Marta Ptaszyńska’s Double Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Orchestra is featured, as performed by the Polish Radio Orchestra under the baton of Michał Klauza with soloists Jakub Jakowicz (violin) and Marcin Zdunik (cello). The work was commissioned to honor the 80th anniversary of the Polish Radio Orchestra. Marta Ptaszyńska is one of the PMC’s longtime friends and supporters, having generously donated some of her manuscripts to our archive over the years.
The program also includes premieres of new works by Wojciech Błażejczyk, Hanna Kulenty, Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil, and Lena Michajłów, showcasing the breadth of today’s Polish musical voices. Performers include ensembles such as NeoQuartet and Kwadrofonik, alongside the Polish Radio Orchestra.
This concert is the opening highlight of a larger project spearheaded by Polish Radio’s Program 2, which has commissioned ten new works from prominent Polish composers. Throughout the 2025/26 season, these pieces will be performed at festivals and concert series across Poland, ensuring that the centennial celebrations extend far beyond a single evening. Additional composers whose works will be premiered in future events include: Paweł Szymański, Cezary Duchnowski, Aleksander Kościów, Nikolet Burzyńska, Monika Szpyrka, and Paweł Malinowski.
