Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music welcomed this season with a truly spring-like event: the 8th Krakow Cello Spring. On 21 March 2021, the festival was held online. This annual event, organized by the Cello and Double Bass Department, has gained a significant position and a group of fans over the years. This year, the concerts presented on the “Online Academy” website of the Academy of Music in Krakow.

This year’s program included four concerts: “Solo and Chamber Music”, “Great Romantic Concertos”, “1900/1901” and “Only Cello – Violoncelles, vibrez!”. The special guest of the 8th edition was an excellent German cellist, professor, and vice-chancellor of the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, Alexander Gebert. Audiences participated in an auditory experience of Recitatives and Ariosos “Lerchenmusik”, Op. 53 by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Sonata in A major for piano and cello, Op. 18 by Zygmunt StojowskiDeux mouvements by Alexandre TansmanAgnus Dei for eight cellos by Krzysztof Penderecki and Orawa by Wojciech Kilar.
