The celebrated film director and auteur David Lynch is also a noted visual artist, and the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, Netherlands opened an exhibit of his paintings on November 29, 2018. Entitled “Someone is in my house,” the show included a wide variety of large paintings, drawings, sketches and objects d’art. Videos are also a part of this retrospective that will be on display until the end of April 2019. For the opening preview, Lynch’s 10-minute silent animated film, Pożar [Fire] was screened to string quartet score written for it by Marek Zebrowski (pictured above, as performed in Los Angles). Members of the Philharmonie Zuidnederland were on hand to perform the musical accompaniment live to a great public acclaim.
Lynch’s Pożar was also shown at Teatro Miela in Trieste, Italy, on 11 December during the Piccolo Festival Animazione. Organized by the Festival’s director, Paola Bristot, the film was introduced by the composer and PMC Director, Marek Zebrowski. The process of writing music for this short animated film was also discussed at public forums and round table discussions, not only in Trieste but also in Venice, where a similar event with Pożar was presented at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice on December 13.
