The XXIII Summer Music Festival will be held from June 27 to July 4 in Płock, Poland. This year’s edition will feature 4 concerts in historic parts of the city. The Płock Symphony Orchestra (POS) will inaugurate the festival with a concert entitled “Musical Premieres,” featuring the premiere of a composition for violin and symphony orchestra created by Iwona Kisiel commissioned by the Orchestra. The composer has many works of chamber and symphonic music, pieces for string orchestra and over 20 songs for voice and piano to the poems of, among others, Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, Halina Poświatowska, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, Bolesław Leśmian and Zbigniew Herbert.
On June 27, at 7 pm, the premiere of Iwona Kisiel’s Płock Concerto will feature soloist Agnieszka Marucha on the violin accompanied by the Płock Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Justyna Kwarcińska. The concert’s repertoire will also include Symphony No. 3 in A minor, “Scottish”, Op. 56 by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
Other concerts during the Festival include “Belcanto in the Museum” on June 29 at 7 pm at the Masovian Museum and “Sounds Fun” on July 2 at 7 pm in the Old Catholic Mariavite Church featuring the OCTAVA ensemble. The final concert will be “Summer Divertimento” on July 4 at 7 pm in the Aula im. Kajetan Morykoni. During this event, the Płock Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jacek Brzoznowski will perform Old Polish Concerto by Romuald Twardowski, Divertimento for string orchestra by Grażyna Bacewicz and Symphony in F sharp minor no. 45 “Farewell” by Joseph Haydn.
Admission to all concerts at the XXIII Summer Music Festival is free. Please note that all attendees must complete a statement, disinfect your hands and cover your mouth and nose during the event.
