The symphonic concerts on June 11-12, 2021, which closed the 2020/2021 Concert Season of the Warsaw Philharmonic, were dedicated to the memory of Maestro Kazimierz Kord.
The great conductor and charismatic artist held the position of General and Artistic Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic in 1977-2001. He introduced the Philharmonic to the year of its 100th anniversary preparing a series of wonderful concerts with participation from the greatest stars of concert halls from around the world. Under his baton, the Philharmonic ensembles have recorded many CDs, mainly with Polish music (especially contemporary), of which Maestro has always been a great admirer and promoter. Kazimierz Kord’s funeral took place on June 12th at 1.00 p.m. in the Church of Saint Martin of Tours in Krzeszowice (1 Grunwaldzka St.).
During the June concerts, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir under the baton of Andrzej Boreyko performed Witold Lutosławski’s Funeral Music as well as works by Gustav Mahler and Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The Friday concert was broadcasted on the Polish Radio Channel 2.
