The 53rd Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk will take place from 7-13 September. The festival has been organized since 1967 under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Culture. Since 1974, the main program has been accompanied by the “Youth Stage” Competition which features talented young pianists. Since 1975, the festival has also hosted the Polish participants of the Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition.
This year’s program features works by Fryderyk Chopin, Stanisław Moniuszko, Raoul Koczalski, Karol Szymanowski, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Witold Lutosławski, Grażyna Bacewicz and Paweł Mykietyn. Several concerts will be devoted entirely to Polish music, including: Youth Stage (several dates, including 9 September featuring former Paderewski Festival Youth Exchange participant Robert Maciejowski), 20th Century Polish Music (10 September), Polish Piano Sonatas (11 September), Witkacy – Pictures in Sound (12 September), and All Piano Concertos by Raoul Koczalski (13 September). In addition, there will be a world premiere of Self-portrait for soprano, alto and piano quintet by Mikołaj Hertel Witkacy and commissioned by the Polish Piano Festival.
