On November 16, during the inauguration of the 2018 “Days of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki” Festival in Katowice, the premiere of Concerto for clarinet and orchestra by Mikołaj Górecki was given. Opening the Festival with a new work by the son of the Festival’s honoree has become a tradition in the 6 years of the Festival’s existence. The premiere was performed by the work’s dedicatee, clarinetist Roman Widaszek, along with the Symphony Orchestra of the Silesian Philharmonic, conducted by Jacek Rogala.
The 6th “Days of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki” Festival was held November 16 – December 1 in Katowice, a city forever associated with the composer. December 6, 2018 was the 85th anniversary of the birth of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, and November 12 was the 8th anniversary of the composer’s death. The Festival also included a concert honoring the 85th birthday of another important living composer, Krzysztof Penderecki, on November 25.
