The work Ad Fontes, written especially for the Gdańsk carillons by Katarzyna Kwiecień-Długosz, was premiered online on 24 April as part of the “Weekly Carillon Concerts.” The concert is available to view at www.facebook.com, as well as an interview with the composer and discussion of the carillons of Gdańsk here.
This latest piece by Katarzyna Kwiecień-Długosz, completed during Holy Week 2020, is the composer’s reaction to the coronavirus pandemic and dedicated to everyone seeking hope. The work was inspired by Psalm 42 from the Book of Psalms. The title translated means “to the sources,” which can be understood in a variety of contexts. The time of the pandemic in some way forces us to reflect on the sources of our identity, humanity and spirituality.
The premiere of the work was performed by the city carillonist, Monika Kaźmierczak.
