The Houston-based professional River Oaks Chamber Orchestra [ROCO] featured a fantastic performance of Wojciech Kilar’s Orawa in their recent weekly concert rebroadcast. Entitled “Ticket to Ride,” the program is a musical journey of Europe by rail, led by conductor Brett Mitchell in his ROCO debut.

During the concert, one can hear the world premiere of Jim Stephenson’s ROCOmotive, a tribute to model trains; plus ROCO principal cellist Richard Belcher as soloist in Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1, along with Wojciech Kilar’s Orawa, Ethel Smyth’s The Wreckers, Ernst Toch’s clever Geographical Fugue, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 35, “Haffner.” This concert was recorded live Feb. 23, 2019, at The Church of St. John the Divine in Houston, TX , with videography by Blueprint Film Co. and sound by Andy Bradley.

ROCO offers free weekly livestream rebroadcasts of past In Concert performances, featuring the full 40-piece chamber orchestra. Each broadcast takes place at noon PST, and can be found on both ROCO’s Facebook page and website.
