The Institute of Music and Dance [IMiT] has announced the 2nd edition of the Stanisław Moniuszko International Polish Music Competition in Rzeszów. This Competition promotes the achievements of Polish music in the 19th and 20th centuries, which have been forgotten or are less popular in concert practice, and highlights newly discovered works and the unjustly neglected legacy that will be properly prepared and re-edited for publication. An equally important goal of the competition is to promote talented musicians who decide to include lesser-known works by Polish composers in their repertoire. The organization of the competition also promotes Poland as a place where artistic events of an international scope take place.

The Competition takes place every two years and may be designed for various performance groups. All information about the first edition of the International Competition of Polish Music on September 20-27, 2019, including the profiles of the winners, is available here.

In the second edition, the competition will be held in two categories: piano and chamber ensembles. The competition is open to musicians who enter individually and as chamber ensembles (from duets to twelve-person ensembles). There are no age and nationality restrictions for the competition.

Applications for the Competition will be available on the Competition website on September 15, 2020 and should be submitted by May 14, 2021. The auditions will be held at the Podkarpacka Philharmonic Artur Malawski in Rzeszów from September 11-18, 2021.

The competition jury will consist of outstanding Polish and foreign musicians and figures of musical life. Three main prizes will be awarded separately in both categories of the competition: 1st prize – EUR 20,000, 2nd prize – EUR 10,000, 3rd prize – EUR 5,000 and three equal distinctions of EUR 1,500 each. In addition, special prizes will be awarded for the performance of works by Stanisław Moniuszko, Władysław Żeleński, and Henryk Pachulski, as well as individual prizes and other non-statutory prizes.

The Competition is organized by the Institute of Music and Dance. The event is co-organized by the Filharmonia Podkarpacka im. Artur Malawski in Rzeszów. The competition is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

News and details, including information about the repertoire, composers and sheet music, will be available on the Competition website starting in August 2020.
