A concert commemorating the 250th anniversary of Józef Elsner‘s birth took place on 3 June. Born on 1 June 1769, the composer, conductor, pedagogue and music culture activist represents in Polish music the classical style of the pre-Chopin period, based on a combination of the Viennese classics with elements of Polish folk music. Elsner also composed about 130 pieces of religious music as well as various genres of opera music. The teacher of Chopin made his own contributions to the development of national musical culture.
Violinist Sławomir Tomasik and pianist Robert Morawski performed works by Józef Elsner, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Grażyna Bacewicz and Karol Szymanowski. Maxymilian Bylicki, Director of the Institute of Music and Dance (IMiT), led the concert.
The organizer of the concert is the Institute of Music and Dance and the Tadeusz Wroński’s Violin Foundation, supported from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
