Established in 1975 by Lady Blanka A. Rosenstiel, the Chopin Foundation of the United States celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The Foundation is dedicated to supporting young American pianists and fostering the appreciation of Frédéric Chopin’s music in this country. Through its flagship National Chopin Piano Competition, held every five years, the Foundation provides top laureates with financial awards, career support, and opportunities to perform internationally. The Foundation also organizes concerts, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives, ensuring that Chopin’s legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians and audiences.

It takes time to establish a legacy. It takes time to build momentum and earn respect in the world of classical music. It takes time for a tree to finally bear fruit once planted as a tiny seed. For nearly 50 years, the Chopin Foundation has been attending to the little seeding that was planted in 1975

One of the upcoming events organized by the foundation will feature this year’s competition winner, William Yang, performing as part of the ‘CHOPIN Salons: Season of Winners’ concert series. In addition to winning the 1st prize at this year’s 11th National Chopin Piano Competition, William also received awards for the Best Mazurka and Best Sonata interpretations, in addition to pre-qualification for the prestigious Chopin Competition in Warsaw.

To give readers a glimpse of Yang’s musicianship, here is his performance of Chopin’s Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 58, recorded during the semifinals of this year’s National Chopin Competition:
