The latest album produced by the Stowarzyszenie Polskich Muzyków Kameralistów (Society of Polish Chamber Musicians) on their in-house label, SPMK Records, features works by Szymon Laks, Mieczysław Weinberg, and Karol Rathaus. The biographies of these fascinating composers are entangled in the difficult history of the 20th century, and this rarely-heard combination of their works tells a story of this era through music.
The album presents sonatas and other pieces for cello and piano, performed by SPMK members cellist Bartosz Koziak and pianist Grzegorz Mania. The tracks include the Polish premiere recording of Three Concert Pieces by Laks.
“Bartek introduced me to Weinberg and his sonata, while I probably introduced Bartek to Laks. Sharing these musical influences with each other, we played these pieces in many places before finally recording them!” – said Grzegorz Mania, announcing the release of the new album.”

This recording project was financed by the Association of Performing Artists (STOART) and implemented with financial support from the Małopolska region. Partners include the USC Polish Music Center and the Kolberg Świętokrzyska Philharmonic in Kielce, with cover design by Paweł Szlotawa.
