Earlier this month, long-time PMC collaborator pianist Seoyon MacDonald released the first digital recording of Krzysztof Meyer’s completion of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Prelude and Fugue in C# minor. Based on his previous work writing a bestselling biography of Shostakovich and orchestrating several of his works, Meyer was given the Prelude and Fugue in C# minor in 2019 by the Shostakovich Foundation and commissioned to complete it.
MacDonald learned of the sketch while meeting Meyer and his wife, musicologist Danuta Gwizdalanka, at the PMC in April 2022 (pictured below). his was the beginning of an important musical journey for MacDonald, as she was given special permission by Meyer to do the American premiere of this piece and make the first digital recording of it as well. We are thrilled to share the news of this release, which all began over a cup of tea right here in the PMC.
