On February 11, NOSPR will host another concert of the Silesian Quartet, as part of their series Mieczysław Wajnberg – all string quartets – following dedications. The overall series includes 17 string quartets performed in 6 concerts by the ensemble. On this program, the Silesian Quartet will present the composer’s String Quartet No. 4 Op. 20, String Quartet No. 9 Op. 80 and String Quartet No. 6, Op. 35.

Contributing significantly to the rediscovery of the music of Mieczysław Weinberg (1919-1996), the Silesian Quartet set itself an extremely demanding task: recording all 17 quartets of this forgotten Polish-Jewish-Russian composer. This is only the second ensemble in the world that has managed to meet this challenge.

Over the course of these recordings and the concert series, audiences have the unique privilege of hearing a complete set of Weinberg’s extraordinary quartets, following the changes taking place in his musical language and the trail of dedications hidden on the pages.
