On December 2 in Wrocław, a plaque was unveiled in honor of composer Elżbieta Sikora and her work with Witold Lutosławski National Forum of Music (NFM) in Wrocław. Following the commemoration of Sikora, the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic held a concert consisting of several pieces, including a masterpiece by Elżbieta Sikora herself: Oliwa Concerto.
Premiered in the Oliwa Cathedral in 2007, the Oliwa Concerto is a somewhat dark piece in which the virtuoso part of the organ contrasts with the brilliantly sounding orchestra. The solo part in this work was performed by the Japanese virtuoso organist Mari Fukumoto.
Also in the program were Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas and Symphony Fantastique Op. 14 by Hector Berlioz. The event also featured a pre-concert lecture by Tateo Nakajima called ‘Music and Acoustics’. More information at: www.nfm.wroclaw.pl
