On 16 December 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Central European Time, the Polish Composers’ Union (ZKP) will host an online meeting devoted to the life and work of Zygmunt Mycielski (1907–1987).
Zygmunt Mycielski – composer, writer and music activist – studied at the École Normale de Musique in Paris with Paul Dukas and Nadia Boulanger (Mycielski is pictured with Boulanger above). He was involved in the Association of Young Polish Musicians in Paris, of which he was the President. Then he returned to Poland in 1936, where he was active as a composer, critic and music journalist. He served as the editor-in-chief of the leading music journal Ruch Muzyczny, and co-edited Res Facta, Rocznik Chopinowski and Chopin Studies. He was the President of the Main Board of the Polish Composers’ Union.
Mycielski’s compositional and literary output, as well as activities aimed at preserving and promoting his musical and literary works will be the subject of a discussion between the invited guests: Prof. Grzegorz Oliwa, PhD, Barbara Mielcarek-Krzyżanowska, PhD, Michał Klubiński and Marek Zagańczyk, writer, essayist and publisher. The meeting will be chaired by the Chair of the Musicological Section of ZKP, Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska, PhD.
