Music lovers experienced the unusual combination of mass mysticism and modern jazz music on 4 October at the Silesian Philharmonic.
The Silesian Philharmonic Choir with Michał Schoppa, Paweł Tomaszewski, Bartek Pieszka, Krzysztof Nowakowski and Tomasz Kałwak under the baton of Jarosław Wolanin performed Missa Gratiatoria by the most famous Polish jazzman Leszek Możdżer.
The concert also featured poignant works of sacred music for a cappella choir: Henryk Mikołaj Górecki’s Euntes ibant et flebant, Benjamin Britten’s Deus in adiutorium meum, Gustav Holst’s Nunc dimittis, and Morten Lauridsen’s Ubi caritas, Ave Maria. The whole program took the audience into the world of heavenly sounds produced by the most perfect instruments in the world: human voices.
