Polish Parliament has declared 2019 the “Year of Stanisław Moniuszko.” In honor of this 200th birth anniversary, the Polish Composers’ Union (ZKP) and Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera have announced an International Stanisław Moniuszko Composers’ Competition for a micro-opera entitled “12 Minutes for Moniuszko.”

Stanisław Moniuszko’s stage works incorporate societal issues, everyday life, and contemporary events. The combination of drama and comedy offers high-quality entertainment without compromising aesthetic qualities. Through melody and instrumentation, Moniuszko reflects the emotional states of the characters and situations.

The competition calls for the creation of a chamber opera based on the social topics and artistic tools of today. Open to composers of all nationalities, without age limit, participants must submit their scores by July 31, 2019. Visit polmic.pl for rules and regulations.
