“Moniuszko Days” with the Toruń Symphony Orchestra will take place between May 5 and June 21, 2019.

This year is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Stanisław Moniuszko, composer, conductor, organ player, educator, director of Warsaw’s Grand Theatre, and the father of Polish opera. Embracing operas, art songs, cantatas, religious music, symphonic works, chamber and solo pieces, operettas, ballets, and theatre music, his oeuvre is diverse, melodic, and deeply-rooted in Polish music heritage.

“Moniuszko Days” will kick off with Lithuanian pianist Nering Valuntonyte performing a recital of Stanisław Moniuszko, Fryderyk Chopin, Clara Wieck Schumann, and Grażyna Bacewicz. The final symphony concert “Moniuszko’s Hits” features fragments of the composer’s opera masterpieces, including The Fairy Tale overture, performed by the Toruń Symphony Orchestra led by Mariusz Smolj. The program also includes concerts and programs for children, a march along Moniuszko street, a musical spectacle and a performance of a concert version of the opera Flis.

“Moniuszko Days” will take place as part of the program of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage “Moniuszko 2019 – Promesa”, implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance.
