Works by Wojciech Kilar were performed in modern electronic arrangements by Szymon Padoła, a Katowice-based DJ, composer and producer known as 5cet, and musicians of the AUKSO Orchestra conducted by Marek Moś, at the Concert Hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) in Katowice on June 14.
Wojciech Kilar was born in Lviv, but he spent most of his artistic life in Katowice, until his death in 2010. It is in this city that he wrote his greatest chamber and symphonic music. He also worked on film scores, and collaborated with Polish directors Andrzej Wajda, Roman Polański, and Krzysztof Kieślowski, as well as foreign directors Francis Ford Coppola and Jane Campion.
The project “ElectroKilar” was created a year ago, for the 85th anniversary of Kilar’s birth. Wiesław Świderski and Szymon Padoła incorporated electronic music into Kilar’s most prominent film compositions and stage works, including Dracula (directed by Francis Ford Coppola) and Orawa, in order to expand the music of Wojciech Kilar to new audiences.
