The Polish Music Council and the Polish Composers’ Union held a concert to commemorate harpsichord virtuosa Elżbieta Chojnacka on the first anniversary of her death. The event took place on June 6 at the Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art in Warsaw.
Recognized by Chojnacka as her artistic successor, Aleksandra Gajecka-Antosiewicz was the performer of the evening, presenting works by Zygmunt Krauze, Paweł Szymański, Jerzy Kornowicz, György Ligeti and Grant MacLachlan. Harpsichordist and pianist Gajecka-Antosiewicz graduated from the G. and K. Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź in the class of prof. Ewa Piasecka (1999) and in the class of prof. Marek Drewnowski (2000). She studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg from 2001-2003 under prof. Chojnacka. In 2015, after completing doctoral studies with prof. Ewa Piasecka, she defended her first doctoral dissertation in Poland on the performance of contemporary harpsichord music. In March 2018, Gajecka-Antosiewicz founded the Elżbieta Chojnacka Center for Contemporary Harpsichord Music at the Palace in Rybna.
The program also included a screening of Elżbieta Chojnacka, directed by Jan Hryniak (TVP, 2000), as well as memories shared by invited guests, including composers Zygmunt Krauze, Paweł Szymański, Jerzy Kornowicz and Paweł Mykietyn.
