Polish Music Publishers (PWM) is planning to publish and record one hundred works by over eighty Polish composers, written between 1918 and 2018. This project will be capped by a cycle of concerts that will take place on November 11, 2018, in the most prestigious venues in Poland and all across the world.
In his interview for the Polish Press Agency, PAP, PWM’s Director and Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Daniel Cichy said that the November 11 Independence Day in Poland will be celebrated with eleven concerts throughout Poland, starting with a concert at 11 a.m. in Kraków, and followed by concerts in Katowice, Wrocław, Szczecin, Poznań, and Białystok, finally ending with a nighttime gala concert in Warsaw. Some of these events will be televised live or recorded for future broadcasts. There will also be eleven concerts on that same day in such cities as New York, Paris, Vienna, London or Tokyo. The recordings, according to Dr. Cichy, will be published in the coming months and short videos will also be distributed to promote these events.
A book about Polish music written during the past century, authored by Danuta Gwizdalanka, will be published in eight languages. This project, like the concerts, is financed from the multi-year “Niepodległa” project financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
For Szymanowski’s “double” anniversary (135th birthday and 80th death anniversary) in 2018, together with the National Chopin Institute, PWM will reissue the complete edition of Karol Szymanowski’s works, prepared by Teresa Chylińska. Two other books about Szymanowski—Gwizdalanka’s book about the composer’s social circles and Chylińska’s Romans, którego nie było? [A Romance that Did Not Happen?] about Szymanowski’s youth and based on his correspondence with friends—are also planned.
Concluding his interview, Dr. Cichy mentioned that PWM embraces the totality of Polish music, including such modern masters as Lutosławski, Górecki or Kilar, as well as the living legends like Ptaszyńska or Krauze and the youngest generation, that includes Chyrzyński and Zubel, for example.
