Polish flautist and new music champion Iwona Glinka will perform a recital during the National Flute Association conventionin San Diego, CA on August 12. Her program of international works was chosen for this prestigious honor from more than 500 proposals submitted by musicians from around the world.
While in California, she will also perform in Los Angeles as a part of the Maksim Velichkin presents Music@Mimoda series at MiMoDa Studio on August 10. Her program will focus on music from Greece, where she has lived since 1995, including: Christos Sp. Anastassiou – Makron for solo flute; Panagiotis Theodosiou – Litany for alto flute solo; Michalis Archontidis – Exotic for solo flute; Michail Travlos – The Castle of Kwidzyn for alto flute solo and Forestbirds Arias: Cuckoos Play for flute solo; Aaron Alter – Variations on Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry for solo flute & alto flute (premiere); and George N. Gianopoulos – Birds of Paradise for flute solo.
Born in Kwidzyn, Poland, Iwona Glinka is a soloist and leading performer of new and experimental music. She founded the Phasma-Music Ensemble in 2016, where she currently serves as the artistic director in addition to playing many concerts a year as an ensemble member. She has given dozens of solo recitals with classical and contemporary repertoire and has appeared as Principal Flautist with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia. She has developed a great interest in New Music, which since 1994 has resulted in over one hundred world premières of works by Australian, Belgian, Brazilian, British, Canadian, Greek, German, Polish and US composers, more than one hundred of them commissioned by and written especially for her.
