Though the Silesian Opera was first established in 1901, the establishment enjoyed its first successes in 1945 with the premiere of Moniuszko’s opera Halka, the first post-war opera performance in Poland. Under the direction of the famous opera singer, Adam Didur, the Silesian Opera gained the reputation of a major opera stage for outstanding artists and ensembles in Poland under his direction. In honor of the 70th anniversary of Didur’s death, a concert dedicated to the first director of the Silesian Opera was held on January 9 in the concert hall. The program included various operas, operettas, and musical performances by Cezary Biesiadecki, Stanisław Duda, Bogdan Kurowski, Wojciech Paczyński, Aleksander Teliga, and Romuald Tesarowicz – who first debuted at the theatre, among others.
