Music of Remembrance (MOR) launches its 18th season with La Revue de Cuisine on Sunday, November 8 at the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall. Founded in 1998, MOR aims to commemorate the Holocaust through music by today’s leading composers with concert performances, educational programs, recordings and commissions of new works. The concert includes a selection of songs from the Vilna ghetto performed by soprano Roslyn Barak, one of the foremost interpreters of Jewish song. The audience will be exposed to the profound and courageous resilience of Jews living there as well as the powerful and poetic music of Mieczyslaw Weinberg. Weinberg’s lively Capriccio and meditative Aria underscore the overall suffering and hope experienced by Poles that resulted from the German invasion. Other performances include works by Martinu, Franz Schreker, Engel and Kattenburg.
