The 57th Organ Festival in Oliwa began on July 1 and will continue throughout the summer until August 26. Concerts are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at the historical Gothic Cathedral of Oliwa, which has one of the most magnificent organs in northern Poland. A number of well-established and young-and-rising organ virtuosos from across the world will be heard throughout the Festival. Several world-premiere concerts are also on the Festival’s calendar.

The opening concert on July 1 featured Roman Perucki and the Baltic Philharmonic led by maestro Łukasz Borowicz in the first performance in northern Poland of Metasinfonia for Organ, Strings and Timpani by Sir Andrzej Panufnik. The closing concert on August 26 will feature the world premiere of the organ version of Jordan, a three-movement composition by Bronisław Kazimierz Przybylski, presented by organist Jerzy Kukla. This concert will also feature Feliks Nowowiejski’s rarely heard Ninth Organ Symphony, Op. 45.
