A concert paying homage to Zygmunt Krauze’s 60 years of piano experience was given on October 4 at the Nowy Teatr in Warsaw. This concert was titled ‘The Last Recital’. It spotlighted both Krauze’s repertoire as well as his manner of performance, which is a combination of accuracy to the score, improvisation and theatrical elements.
The recital program consisted mainly of 20th century masterpieces, as well as the most famous of classics. There was a collage of piano literature from Bach until today, creating surprising contrasts with masterful skill. Some of the featured contemporary pieces were from composers like Stockhausen, Messiaen, Cowell, Andriessen, Webern, Satie, Feldman, and Lutosławski. There were also interludes that included improvisations and excerpts of themes by composers such as Chopin, Beethoven, Haydn and Brahms.
