The Pomeranian Music Society organized a Nov. 4 concert at the Great Hall of the Artus Court in Toruń to commemorate the tragic death four years ago of Marek Wakarecy, a well-known Toruń-based musician who also led the Toruń Symphony Orchestra. In 1997 Wakarecy founded the Music and Architecture summer festival and in 2005 he laid the foundation for the Toruń Handel Festival. In addition to performing, Marek Wakarecy for many years served on the board of the Pomeranian Music Society.

For the memorial concert, two outstanding soloists, Jakub Jakowicz and Krzysztof Jakowicz, appeared with a specially-assembled “String Orchestra for Marek,” performing repertoire of works by Vivaldi, Albinoni and H.M. Górecki.
