The 19th Silesian Days of Contemporary Music, organized by the Polish Composers’ Union (ZKP), is being held from 19 November to 8 December 2020. The first concert, performed by the MagDuś Duo (pianist Magdalena Duś and saxophonist Bartłomiej Duś), featured Przemysław Szczotka’s Simbiosis, written especially for the duo, and the premiere of Stanisław Bromboszcz’s Monodrama for baritone saxophone and electronics.

The program of the concert entitled “Songs of Silesian Composers,” performed by Ewa Biegas (soprano), Maciej Bartczak (baritone), Dagmara Niedziela (piano), Grzegorz Biegas (piano), and Justyna Młynarczyk (viola da gamba), included works by Edward Bogusławski, Józef Świder, Tomasz Bauć, and Władysława Markiewiczówna as well as the premieres of Adrianna Kubica-Cypek’s Sonnets to words by William Shakespeare and Wojciech Stępień’s Five Letters to the Beautiful Knight to words by Rambald di Vaqueiras. Piotr Senkowski’s Trois nocturnes pour violon et piano and Marta Kleszcz’s Tentativo III will be premiered in December by AdAstra Trio. The final concert will feature premieres of Przemysław Scheller’s Dream of a butterfly quartet for piano, vibraphone, and two shadows, and Krzysztof Gawlas’ Approaching for two pianos, two percussions, and electroacoustics.

The project was co-financed under the “Music” program carried out by the Institute of Music and Dance. Recordings of the concerts are published on the Facebook page of the Silesian Tribune of Composers, on the YouTube channel of the Polish Composers’ Union (Katowice Branch), and on the websites of the co-organizers.
