On November 27, 2020, the winner of the 17th Tadeusz Ochlewski Competition was announced by the jury. The theme of this year’s Competition was to compose a piece for a string quartet. This theme was not accidental: in the year of the 75th anniversary of the Competition’s organizer—Polish Music Editions, or PWM—it was decided to refer to the composition first published by the house: Roman Palester‘s 2nd String Quartet.

Composed of Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa (chairwoman), Iwona Lindstedt, Arkadiusz Kubica, and Daniel Cichy, the jury met in a hybrid session of in-person and video attendees. During the session, the jury assessed all the works submitted and allowed by the Regulations, and decided unanimously to award the main prize to: Krzysztof Wyglądacz for his string quartet entitled O Nadziei.

As the laureate of the 17th Tadeusz Ochlewski, Mr. Wyglądacz will receive:

  • a cash prize in the amount of PLN 10,000
  • print publication of the composition in the PWM catalog
  • public performance of the awarded composition
