The 1st Mieczysław Karłowicz International Composers’ Competition, organized by the Society of Authors ZAiKS and the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin, will take place over the course of the next several months.

The objective is to compose a 9-12 minute piece for the symphonic orchestra. It is recommended that a full orchestra perform it. All submitted works must be original, unpublished, not previously performed in public or awarded a prize in another competition. The competition is open to composers of all ages and nationalities. The application will be open online from 1 April 2020 to 31 August 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

Results of the first stage will be publicly announced by 28 September 2020. The final round of the competition will take place on 20 November 2020 at the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin. Compositions selected during the first stage will be premiered by the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic Orchestra in Szczecin, conducted by Szymon Bywalec. After the premiere concert, the Jury will decide its final verdict and announce the results. First prize will receive 50,000 PLN, second prize will receive 30,000 PLN, and third prize will receive 20,000 PLN. There will also  be an Audience Award and Orchestra Award.
