Applications for the Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival are now open. Composers should submit their application at filmfreeway.com by February 1, 2017.

The Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival features short films with original scores performed live-to-picture. The 2017 festival is presented in collaboration with Helix Collective, the Academy of Scoring Arts and the New York Film Academy. The best short films will be selected by nomination of our festival partners and our independent judging panel. Awards for Best Picture and Best Musical Score will be presented at the close of the festival.

Selected film composers will be paired with a winning filmmaker to create an original score for the festival, and awardees are given free studio time to have the music recorded, edited, and set to picture for release. The film will also be screened with the score performed live by the renowned performance and recording ensemble, Helix Collective. The screening will include an interview with the filmmakers and composers and a Meet-and-Greet.

Now in its fourth year, LALSFF’s goal is to highlight the role of collaboration between composers and filmmakers. Acting like a talent agent, the festival brings experts in the two disciplines together. At the screenings, filmmakers and composers hear and see the work of new colleagues, meet new collaborators, and establish working relationships with each other. Additionally, Helix Collective proves that it is possible to get talented experienced film musicians to play and record for independent films on an accommodating budget.
