Organized by the Chopin Foundation of the U.S. and the Southern Wine & Spirits of America, the series finale of the Chopin for All Free Concert Series will take place on May 14 and 15. The piano recital will feature works by Mozart, Schubert and Chopin, performed by First Prize Winner of the 2015 National Chopin Competition, Eric Lu. Lu is also the fourth prize winner at the 2015 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw and has won first prize at the Moscow International Chopin Competition for Young Pianists (2014), Minnesota International e-Piano Junior Competition (2013), and the XII Ettlingen International Competition in Germany (2010). He started piano studies at the age of 6 with Mrs. Dorothy Shi and is currently a student of Profs. Jonathan Biss and Robert McDonald as well as pianist Dang Thai Son. Now 18 years old, Lu has received international recognition by audiences for his “exceptional musical sensitivity” (New York Classical Review) and “notable musical maturity” (Cincinnati Review). Tom Aldridge from NUVO News further expands on Lu’s abilities after a recent performance at Butler’s Eidson-Duckworth Recital Hall, saying: “After Schubert’s first two movements, the finale opens with a flash of counterpoint, Lu unleashing his breath-taking virtuosity, his flying fingers snatching every note called for. This is faster than I’ve heard anyone else take this movement, and Lu made it convincing.”
