The Eighth edition of the Leo Festival in Wrocław (May 29 – June 4) was curated and directed by maestro Ernst Kovacic and this year’s edition focused on the athletic aspects of music. Both music and sport require good physical condition and feature a strong quest for excellence by all of its participants.

With ballet being one of the best examples of intersecting disciplines, the Festival presented Stravinsky’s Apollo and Beethoven’s Creatures of Prometheus. Another aspect of the Festival is the creative engagement of children, which led this year to a premiere of a new children’s opera performed by young soloists with the Leopoldinum Orchestra. The same orchestra shared the podium with Sinfonietta Cracovia in the closing concert of the Festival, featuring Polyptique by Frank Martin and Bartok’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta.
