Our good colleagues at the Association of Polish Chamber Musicians (SPMK) and the Villa Decius in Kraków are collaborating on the series “Summer Concerts of the Piano Cooperative,” which will take place on Sundays in June (23rd) and August (11th and 25th). The programs of these free concerts celebrate composers’ anniversaries as well as world premieres of new music.
On June 23, popular music arranged for piano for 4, 6 and 8 hands was presented by virtuoso pianists of SPMK: Monika Gardoń-Preinl, Piotr Różański, Grzegorz Mania and Marta Mołodyńska-Wheeler, whose new work was also premiered at the concert.
On August 11, PMC favorite pianists Piotr Różański and Grzegorz Mania will return to the elegant hall of Villa Decius for a celebration of the 170ths anniversaries of Polish composers Maurycy Moszkowski and Juliusz Zarębski—an appropriate program for two pianists known collectively as the Zarębski Piano Duo. Then, on August 25, SPMK will present a program based on the research they’ve conducted in the PMC Archives of the Roman Ryterband Collection. Held on the 110th anniversary of the composer’s birth and entitled “Roman Ryterband – At the intersection of classical music, jazz and film,” it will be performed by Joanna Konarzewska (violin), Magdalena Molendowska (soprano), Julia Samojło (piano). This chamber recital continues the trend of re-discovery of Roman Ryterband’s music, both in his home country of Poland and around the world.
