A recording of Elżbieta Sikora’s works for soloists and orchestra published by ANAKLASIS (ANA 024) was recently honored as one of only two albums nominated for the Fryderyk Award in the “Concertante Music” Category. Entitled Concertos, this album highlights three of Sikora’s compositions written during the past two decades.
The first item on this disc is Concerto for Piano and Orchestra—Hommage à Frédéric Chopin, a four-movement work written in 2000. It was performed on this release by pianist Adam Kośmieja with Sinfonia Varsovia under the baton of Bassem Akiki. It is followed by Concerto pour violon et orchestre, a three-movement work dating from 2018, recorded here by Linus Roth and the NOSPR Orchestra under José Maria Florêncio. The album concludes with the Oliwa Concerto for Organ and Orchestra, a work completed in 2020, featuring organist Mari Fukumoto and the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic under Pascal Rophé.
Besides the Fryderyk Award nomination, Sikora’s latest CD published by the Anaklasis label was also recognized with the Coup de Coeur 2023/Musique Contemporaine Award by the Académie Charles Cros together with France Musique, and the Centre National de la Musique in France.
