The 31st International Festival of Kraków Composers will take place from May 11-19, 2019. This year’s festival will present Polish composers, especially those from Kraków, in the context of world music under the theme of “an image of inspiration / image as inspiration / inspiration from images.” Compositions inspired by such things as Japanese woodcuts, European oil paintings, and film paintings will be presented.
Italian composer Ada Gentile is the special guest of the festival. The works of composers from Poland, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Great Britain, USA, Japan and South Korea will be performed by soloists, chamber musicians and orchestras, including: Yeree Suh (South Korea / Germany), Robert Koller (Switzerland), Simone Beneventi (Italy), Małgorzata Isphording (Holland / Poland), Jadwiga Kotnowska (Poland), DAFO quartet, Trio Śląskie, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Orchestra of the Music Academy in Kraków, and the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra.
The festival is organized by the Kraków branch of the Polish Composers’ Union (ZKP), led by artistic and general director Marcel Chyrzyński, and takes place under the honorary patronage of Jacek Majchrowski, Mayor of the City of Kraków. Admission to all concerts is free with the exception of the concert of the Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Kraków on 12 May and concerts of the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra on 17-18 May. Tickets may be purchased at the Kraków Philharmonic box office.
