On October 5, the Warsaw Philharmonic will inaugurate the 2018/2019 season celebrating the centenary of Poland’s regained independence with Witold Lutosławski’s one-minute Fanfare for Los Angeles Philharmonic (1993), the world premiere the newest work of Eugeniusz Knapik entitled Blessing Gentle Breeze, and the Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor (1900) by Sergei Rachmaninov.
Blessing Gentle Breeze features the opening verses of William Wordsworth’s autobiographical work. Knapik studied at Katowice’s Academy of Music, made his debut at Warsaw Philharmonic in 1974, and led Polish new music from the avant‑garde to New Romanticism.
Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor will be performed by Seong-Jin Cho – laureate of the first prize and best performance of the polonaise at the XVII Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition in 2015. The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir will be led by Jacek Kaspszyk.
