Polish composer Marcel Chyrzyński was recently recognized with two Silver Medals at the prestigious Global Music Awards (USA), in the category of Contemporary Classical – Composer.
In March 2025, Chyrzyński was awarded for works featured on the album Marcel Chyrzyński – Chamber Works (DUX 2001), recorded by Piotr Lato (clarinet), Wojciech Koprowski (violin), Jan Kalinowski (cello), and Marek Szlezer (piano). Just a few months later, in June 2025, he received his second Silver Medal for compositions included on Marcel Chyrzyński – Clarinet Pieces (Orpheus Classical), performed by Kamil Janas (clarinet), Magdalena Duś (piano), and the Al Pari String Quartet.
These distinctions highlight Chyrzyński’s growing recognition on the global stage and reaffirm his role as one of Poland’s leading voices in contemporary classical music.
Chyrzyński is no stranger to the PMC audience. In 2017, the he was the focus of our annual Paderewski Lecture-Recital, a monographic concert featuring his works performed by the Cracow Duo (Jan Kalinowski, cello & Marek Szlezer, piano). Thanks to the inspiration that his time in California provided, subsequent compositions have been featured on several other PMC concerts–including our upcoming 2026 Spring Concert. Save the date for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, when the Cracow Duo returns to perform Chyrzyński and other excellent Polish composers at USC!
