On March 28, Paweł Hendrich‘s latest monographic album entitled “Fractalized” was released by the DUX record label. This album (DUX 2136) contains four works performed over the last eight years by artists specializing in new music performance from Poland, Austria and Switzerland.

The tracks—containing pieces entitled Phantomaticon, Just a little beat, Hordiaver and Absusurrus—were recorded by the Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej conducted by Szymon Bywalec and the Basel Sinfonietta conducted by Baldur Brönnimann, as well as pianist Dorota Adamczak and flutist Łukasz Długosz. Live recordings took place during Polish contemporary music festivals, with the composer creating the electronic layer.

The titular fractals perfectly reflect the means of composition, indicating the limitations of material means, but captured in different time and space scales. This is music that is thoroughly modern in expression, in which the robotic element, requiring almost superhuman technical skills, intertwines with the omnipresent spirit of improvisation, with which only a human can contend. The composer leaves it up to the performers to decide which faction will prevail each time.

The project was co-financed by the City of Wrocław and ZAiKS, with media patronage from the Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC in Warsaw. The disc includes recordings made courtesy of the National Forum of Music.
