Szymon Morus, Artistic Director of the NDI Sopot Classic International Music Festival and the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot, invites young composers to take part in the 8th Krzysztof Penderecki Composition Competition, held in conjunction with the 15th edition of the NDI Sopot Classic International Music Festival. The competition is open to participants born on or after April 8, 1990, with a submission deadline of April 8, 2025.
Since its inception, the competition is intended to both support emerging composers and honor the legacy of the renowned Polish composer, Krzysztof Penderecki. This year’s edition focuses on compositions for string orchestra, with a required duration of 6 to 10 minutes. Each composer may submit up to three pieces. Finalists will have the opportunity to present their works in concert during the NDI Sopot Classic Festival, where the winners will be announced.
Prizes totaling 25,000 PLN will be awarded as follows:
- Audience Award – 11,000 PLN
- Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot Award – 8,000 PLN
- Jury Award – 6,000 PLN
The competition is co-financed by the City of Sopot. Organizers include: NDI Sopot Classic International Music Festival, Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot, Pomeranian Voivodeship Self-Government, and Baltic Artistic Agency BART. The Competition’s publishing partner is Polish Music Publishing House (PWM).
