The “Chain XXI” Witold Lutosławski Festival will take place from January 20 – February 4, 2024 in Warsaw’s iconic W. Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio. This year’s festival celebrates the 30th anniversary of Lutosławski’s passing. The name of the festival, “Chain” (or “Łańcuch” in Polish) refers to a series of iconic compositions by Lutosławski with the same title.
The festival will consist of five concerts, each featuring rarely performed works by outstanding representatives of modernism in music. There will also be six Polish premieres on offer, including Christian von Borries’s edition of an unknown and unfinished Passacaglia for orchestra by Alban Berg.
On the list of invited artists and ensembles are: Artiom Sziszkow (violin), Andrzej Karałow (piano), Maksymilian Lipień (oboe), the National Symphonic Orchestra of Polish Radio, the Orchestra of Polish Radio in Warsaw, the Chain Ensemble, AUKSO – the Orchestra of the City of Tychy, and the Meccore String Quartet. Orchestras will be led by a group of excellent conductors: Bass Akiki, Andrzej Bauer, Michał Klauza, and Marek Moś.
The festival is organized by the Program 2 of Polish Radio and the Witold Lutosławski Society,
