Maestro Grzegorz Nowak continues to lead orchestras all across Europe and present musically interesting programs with excellent young soloists. One of Nowak’s most recent appearances took place at the Symphony Hall of the Auditorio Nacional de Musica in Madrid on September 30. The program opened with Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Concert Overture and continued with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with young Russian pianist, Nikolai Khozyainov. The second part of the concert was taken by Robert Schumann’s magnificent and expansive “Rhennish” Symphony.

A week later, on October 6, Nowak wielded his baton at the Teatro Real in Madrid, leading the Orquesta Clasica Santa Cecilia in Beethoven’s Eighth and Ninth Symphonies. For his rendition of Beethoven’s Ninth, Nowak was assisted by soloists and choir of Madrid’s Sociedad Coral Excelentia.

Janusz Wawrowski by Fabrizio MalteseNowak’s October in Madrid will conclude with an October 25 concert featuring Janusz Wawrowski, performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Earlier this year, the Wawrowski-Nowak team recorded the Tchaikovsky and Ludomir Różycki violin concertos for a Warner Classics CD. The remainder of the Oct. 25 program will be devoted to Franz Schubert’s “Great” Symphony No. 9. Once again, Nowak’s partners will be Orquesta Clasica Santa Cecilia and the concert will be held at Sala Sinfonica of the Auditorio National de Musica.
