On October 17 in Baltimore, young conductor Reuben Stern will lead A Recital of Music by Grażyna Bacewicz (1909-1969), in partial fulfillment of a Masters Degree in Conducting.

A student of Marin Alsop at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, Stern presents this recital as part of an ambitious and multi-faceted collaboration with the Polish Cultural Institute New York. This multi-year collaborative project is intended to revitalize Grażyna Bacewicz‘s music and spark newfound interest in this phenomenal composer, through both performance and scholarship. Learn more about the project and support Stern’s effort at his GoFundMe page.

The Oct 17 concert program will include the following works by Bacewicz’s Divertimento for String Orchestra and Music for Strings, Trumpets, and Percussion, as well as the North American Premiere of her Symphony for String Orchestra.

Due to COVID precautions, in-person audiences are limited to JHU students, faculty, and staff, at 50 percent capacity in the hall. However the performance will also be livestreamed via peabody.jhu.edu.
