The Silesian Philharmonic’s concert on July 9, 2021 is dedicated to two professors, extremely important figures for the Silesian Philharmonic and for the Silesian and Polish composers’ schools – Eugeniusz Knapik and Jan Wincenty Hawel, who celebrates their birthday in July. The Silesian Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Maciej Tomasiewicz and soprano Sylwia Olszyńska will perform their works, as well as captivating songs by Mieczysław Karłowicz and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.

On July 9th, Eugeniusz Knapik will celebrate his 70th birthday. The concert will begin with the composer’s work When Suns Die…, which had its premiere at the Silesian Philharmonic during the 8th International Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Days. Just like then, Sylwia Olszyńska will perform the solo part. This piece is a tribute to Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and is based on the same literary text that inspired the patron of the Silesian Philharmonic in creating his String Quartet No. 3 “… songs are sung”.

Then we will hear Jan Wincenty Hawel’s Musical Moments. There are three eponymous “moments” in Opus 131. These works are one of the artist’s favorite compositions, so it will be the perfect gift on the eve of the 85th birthday of the Honorary Head of the Silesian Chamber Orchestra. The Moments combine traditional notation and aleatorism, so the audience gathered in the concert hall will experience their unique version.
