The 35th-anniversary edition of the Warsaw Music Encounters will be held on 7-12 May 2021. All concerts combining early and new music will be available online for free via Facebook and YouTube.
The Warsaw Music Encounters have been organized since 1986 by the Warsaw Branch of the Polish Composers’ Union (ZKP). It is the only festival focused on the work of composers active in Warsaw. Its characteristic feature is the presentation of unknown works of early music. A combination of historical and contemporary music sometimes creates surprising contexts, inspiring composers to write new works based in the languages of different eras. The festival provides an alternative to the “mainstream” repertoire presented daily in philharmonics and on radio stations, and may also serve as an important supplement to it.
The program of the 2021 edition will include, among others, Polish multi-percussion works performed by Hob-beats Percussion Group, compositions by Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa sang by the La Tempesta ensemble with the accompaniment of Leszek Lorent, a mini-opera for children entitled Opera dizziness, a piano recital by Kuba Sokołowski with a guest appearance of Szábolcs Esztényi, an organ recital by Michał Markuszewski, as well as a concert by the Sikora Piano Duo and the Łomża Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jan Miłosz Zarzycki.
This festival is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage as part of the “Music” program carried out by the Institute of Music and Dance.
