The Sounds and Notes Foundation is delighted to present the 4th Annual Chopin IN the City Festival. The Festival takes place from February 21 to March 1, and will feature a wide range of exciting multicultural performances by musicians, vocalists, visual and spoken word artists. This unique Festival bring together arts, cultural and community organizations from Chicago as well as from around the world to make this diverse celebration of composer and pianist Frederic Chopin a truly unique event in Chicago.
This year’s events will feature a dozen performances at various venues around the city. Over 30 artists will participate, including: internationally renowned jazz vocalist Grazyna Auguscik, pianists Ben Lewis and Rob Clearfield, drummer Quin Kirchner, Polish jazz pianist Kamil Urbanski, guitarists Goran Ivanovic and Fareed Haque, Polish-Canadian classical pianist Katarzyna Musial, vocal trio The OhYeahs, author Anna Wodecki promoting her new book Outsider, Ian Maxim promoting his new CD, classical pianist Svetlana Belsky, classical violinist Marta Szlubowska, drummer Mike Reed, saxophonist Peter Cheslie, actor Andrzej Krukowski and NaszTeatr theater. Also, this year festival organizers have invited photographer Lauren Deutsch, who has been photographing jazz for over two decades, to exhibit her work at Constellation on February 27.
The festival’s concerts and performances will take place at various venues around the Chicago area including the Green Mill Jazz Club, Fryderyk Chopin Polish School, Hungry Brain, Constellation, Polish Museum of America, Korean Cultural Center of Chicago, Piano Forte, ProMusica and Terra Sounds School of Music and Arts.
