The NDI Sopot Classic International Music Festival, which will be held on 4-11 August, showcases a range of Polish and international music. Created in 2011 as an initiative of the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot and City of Sopot, the festival features varied programs, talented artists, young composers and performers, and musical representations from other cultures.
The concerts’ repertoire will cover works created over several centuries of European musical culture.
This year’s festival will be inaugurated by Piotr Beczała, a world-famous tenor and promoter of Polish music. During the opening concert, he will perform Stefan’s aria from the third act of Stanisław Moniuszko’s opera The Haunted Manor. On 7 August the program will be filled with works by Wojciech Kilar, Fryderyk Chopin and Krzysztof Penderecki to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Polish independence. The Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot will perform with Austrian pianist Ingolf Wunder, winner of the second prize at the 16th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition. On 9 August the British band VOCES8 will perform a cappella music at St. George’s Church. The festival finale entitled “Under the Sky of Paris” will take place on 11 August at the Forest Opera in Sopot.
