Step 1:
Locate the section heading and the corresponding article in the original Newsletter. Example from July 2016 – see https://pmc.usc.edu/news/jul16.html (the last bit of URL will when you go to other months):
Section heading: PMC News
Article: NEW INTERIM WEB ADDRESS
Step 2:
Copy and paste the text of each article into its own blog post, using the same article title. Example from July 2016:
Many faithful Polish Music Center visitors and Polish Music Newsletter readers may have noticed that our URL has recently changed to pmc.usc.edu. This is due to server upgrade work that is being carried out by the University and will not affect the content of our site. Please also be aware that our old web address will continue to forward to this new URL for the foreseeable future so you do not need to update your links at this time.
However, the larger change that is afoot is a major upgrade to the PMC’s website design and content, an upgrade which those same faithful visitors and readers will know is long overdue. We are working diligently with designers and web architects to renew the look and usability of our site, while maintaining the invaluable resource of musicological and cultural information that is housed within. Once this redesign is complete, we will have a new and permanent URL that will be shared with our users.
We thank you for tapping into the vast, 20+ year-old online treasure trove that is the PMC website. If you would like to support our upgrade efforts, please consider a tax-deductible donation of any size at: giveto.usc.edu (please specify “USC Polish Music Center” under “University-wide Giving Opportunities”–> “Centers & Institutes” to ensure that your gift get to the right place).
Step 3:
Check links to see if they are still active, update the link (especially to internal content) if needed.
Step 4:
Import photos from the article into the media library. Not a lot of them have captions, but try to add a caption and alt text describing the person in the picture (ex: Musician FIRST LAST NAME performing at THIS SPECIFIC CONCERT). This can usually be ascertained from the article. Place the photos into the blog post.
Step 5:
Edit the “publish immediately” option. Set the date to the first of the corresponding month and year (ex: July 1, 2016)
Step 6:
Select the following categories under Newsletter: the section heading (in this case, PMC News), the year (in this case, 2016), and home (if you want it to appear on the home page). Add a tag for the MONTH YEAR (ex: July 2016)
…Repeat for all articles in each section from all missing Newsletters from 2016-2017
Steps 3 and 4 were not done very regularly throughout the newsletters, so checking on the previous ones, after finishing importing all of them, would probably be a good idea. Note: newsletters from 2015 and before were placed in its entirety into one blog post for the month but still need photos.
